MARRYING Intelligent Transport Systems AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!


  1. Introduction

    DIMTS has partnered with European Union for the STADIUM Project headed by EU Directorate General for Research & Development for implementing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) through a pilot project being implemented during CWG 2010 in Delhi.

    STADIUM Project is funded by the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Development of the European Commission’s DG Research. It stands for Smart Transport Applications Designed for large events with Impacts on Urban Mobility.

    Beyond other activities, the project demonstrates Intelligent Transport System (ITS) pilot applications at three major events: the South Africa World Cup (2010), the India Commonwealth Games (October 2010) and the London Olympics (2012).

    The STADIUM Delhi Demonstrator was launched in Delhi on the 24th September 2010 and it is deployed and tested during the XIX Commonwealth Games (CWG 2010, Delhi).

    ITS provide better public transport management, better information and better integration with other services therefore attracting more passengers, reducing congestions, strenghtnening sustainability and accessibility: the duties of public transport for the day by day operations and especially during a large event!

    Other official partners are Thetis, an expert organization for ITS systems based in Italy, the Mobility Agency of Rome that provides mainly the urban mobility services for the city of Rome (Italy), the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and Ashok Leyland and Y4PT (Youth for Public Transport) a worldwide youth organization based in Brussels under UITP (International Public Transport Union).


  2. How to get information ?

    A new website www.newdelhimobile.in designed for mobile devices and PC was launched, allowing the users to experience the infomobility application, including real-time bus waiting time at all the bus stops of the monitored lines and an integrated route planner, providing detailed directions to the destination, integrating metro, buses and feeder services. It shows the benefits of multimodal, integrated information to public transport users to plan and make their trip efficiently.
