Track Buses with your Mobile Phone!

  1. Introduction

Continuing with its efforts to provide the best services to bus commuters and making travelling in buses a preferred option, DIMTS, in collaboration with a service provider has introduced a new system, on a pilot basis, whereby commuters can get information regarding the arrival of the bus at the key bus stops on the BRT Corridor through a SMS. The Passenger Information System (PIS) facility on mobile phones is available for all DTC buses (AC and non-AC) on 4 BRT Routes - 419, 423, 425 and 522.

Commuters can now plan their journey in advance by just sending a SMS to 54545 in a prescribed format and they'll be immediately provided with an update on the route-wise Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) of the bus at the designated bus stop.

With this facility, commuters can avoid waiting at the bus stop and instead, with one SMS they can plan when to reach the bus stop and catch the bus. It is particularly useful for people who board the bus from stops which have no display boards informing them about the estimated time of arrival of their bus. Commuters are being provided with this information with the help of the Global Positioning System (GPS) device that has been installed in all the new DTC buses.

  2. Message Format

Commuters can send the SMS in the following format to 54545:

The message will list all the buses on BRT the route, both AC and non-AC that will reach the bus stop in the next 30 minutes, with their respective ETA and route numbers. For example, 522UP means that the bus travelling from Ambedkar Nagar Terminal to Old Rajendra Nagar will reach the Chirag Delhi bus stop in next 5 minutes approximately.

  3. Bus Stop Information

This facility is currently available in the following bus stops for 3 routes:

  4. User Charges

The charges applicable for sending one SMS will be similar to the national SMS charges as levied under the user's tariff plan to a maximum amount of Rs. 3.00. Commuters will be charged even if the message sent is invalid. Please make sure that you send the SMS in the correct format with the right spelling of the bus stop as is given above.

  5. Disclaimer

Please note that this is a system generated output based on GPS location data received from the bus in real time basis and the accuracy/latency of this information depends on various factors, considering the involvement of a range of technologies such as GPS, internet, SMS and cellular network. Hence this is to be used for "guiding purpose only" and DIMTS or its service provider do not take any responsibility of the accuracy of the prediction and the same should not be used for any claim, damage, dispute or legal purpose. No third party claim of any nature will be entertained in this regard.
