Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Dehradun and Mussoorie

Scope of Work : Preparation of a Comprehensive Mobility Plan. This would entail:
  • Collecting data and analyzing urban transport environment
  • Preparing and evaluating urban transport development strategy
  • Developing the pedestrian mobility strategy
  • Developing Urban Mobility Plans
  • Preparing Implementation Programme
  • Stakeholder Consultations
Dehradun, the capital of the newly formed state of Uttarakhand is one of the major towns of Uttarakhand. The city currently has a population of nearly 7 lakh and requires substantial investment to upgrade, expand and provide new infrastructure to meet the rapid urbanization and fast rate of population growth. The current rate of decadal growth is nearly 40 percent, which is likely to continue until the population stabilizes to a lower rate of growth. Recently a Development Plan for city had been prepared to provide a perspective of the development for the next 25 years, while keeping in view longer term growth of city.

With the increasing population and travel needs, the transport infrastructure of the city also requires substantial improvements to cope with future requirements.

Apart from Dehradun the famous tourist destination, Mussoorie also requires planning of key transport elements and future strategy to develop transport system and infrastructure to cater to the increasing requirements of tourism and city residents.

The main objectives of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) are to:
  • To study the existing traffic and travel characteristics of the study areas
  • To project travel demand upto the horizon year 2025
  • To identify short term transport improvement measures
  • To prepare medium and long term transport improvement plans
  • To encourage modal shift in favour of public transport and intermediate public transport
  • To encourage modal shift in favour of walking and NMV by providing proper facilities for them
  • To focus on environmental sustainability
  • To focus on needs of the poor and therefore social sustainability
  • To carry out a study for development of Integrated Mass Transport System including economic and financial analysis
  • To suggest implementation mechanism and organizational structure
